Training & Orientation

Preparing Volunteers for Meaningful Service

At AFAO, we believe that well-prepared volunteers create stronger programs, better experiences, and greater community impact. Our orientation and training process is designed to help volunteers understand our mission, values, expectations, and the communities we serve while building the knowledge and confidence needed to contribute effectively.

Orientation and training may vary depending on the volunteer role, program activities, organizational needs, and applicable requirements.

Welcome to AFAO

Orientation introduces volunteers to AFAO's mission, vision, values, charitable purpose, organizational culture, and commitment to serving individuals in need, immigrant families, and low-income households with dignity, respect, and professionalism.

Understanding Our Programs

Volunteers receive an overview of AFAO's charitable and educational programs to better understand how their service contributes to reducing poverty and promoting lasting economic self-sufficiency.

Volunteer Expectations

Orientation helps volunteers understand the standards of professionalism, ethical conduct, communication, teamwork, confidentiality, and respect that guide volunteer service throughout the organization.

Role-Specific Guidance

When applicable, volunteers receive information and guidance related to their assigned responsibilities, helping them perform their roles safely, confidently, and effectively.

Safety & Well-Being

AFAO is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for volunteers, participants, staff, and community partners. Orientation may include information related to safety practices, emergency procedures, and organizational expectations that support a positive volunteer experience.

Continuous Learning

Learning does not end after orientation. As AFAO continues to grow, volunteers may have opportunities to participate in additional learning activities, workshops, or organizational updates that support ongoing personal and professional development.
